Chuck Liddell, nicknamed “The Iceman” was born on December 17. 1969 in Santa Barbara, California. He weighs 205 lbs and stands 6′ 2″ tall. He masters the Kempo and kickboxing style of fighting allowing him to capture lot of victories. Chuck makes up for his relatively light weight body with his ice cool temperament that has stood him in good stead throughout all his games.
Chuck made his debut at the age of 29 against Noe Hernandez at UFC17 in May, 1998. He made a dream debut by defeating Noe in a 12 minute match. Another victory against Jose Landi Jons took him against Jeremy Horn at UFC 19: Ultimate Young Guns. This was a bitterly fought battle with Jeremy putting Chuck down with a powerful Arm Triangle choke.
This defeat revitalized Chuck and determined to get his UFC record straight, he fought a fight with Paul Jones at UFC 22: Only one can be the champion in September 1999. This was the first time Chuck threw strikes at Paul that he could not handle and was defeated. This victory started a series of victories in the UFC with Chuck overpowering most of his opponents. He won the fights against Jeff Monson, Kevin Randleman, Guy Mezger, Murilo Bustamante, Vitor Belfort, Renato Sobral.
All the above mentioned victories set him up for a clash with the much heavier Randy Couture in UFC 43: Meltdown. The much heavier Randy dealt some severe punches to Chuck which very deadly in effect. Chuck could not overcome the effects of the punches and lost the battle. Another loss against the swift Quinton Jackson was enough to spur him on for the next series of matches.
As it turned out to be, Chuck won his next couple of matches against Tito Ortiz and Vernon White easily setting up a revenge match with Randy Couture at UFC 52. Chuck won a battle that no one expected him to. He handed Randy a taste of his medicine by dealing effective punches on Randy. Winning this fight meant, Chuck Liddell was crowned UFC Light Heavyweight Title for the first time.
He defended his UFC Light Heavyweight title 4 times in a row with victories against Jeremy Horn, Randy Couture, Renato Sobral and Tito Ortiz. The match against Quinton Jackson in May 2007 was critical for Chuck. Chuck lost the match to Quinton and lost his UFC Light Heavyweight title. This loss was followed by another loss against Keith Jardine in September 2007.
Analyzing Chuck’s fight history, it is evident that he bounces back strongly from two losses very easily. He has done that in 2003 and in 1999. Having a 20-5 record in MMA is not so easy to achieve over 10 years of fighting. All the indicators lead to the fact that a bounceback from Chuck is due this season. He has suffered two defeats continuously after 4 years, something that we have seen from Chuck in the past. Analysts say that he is improving his weight game as every day passes by that could only be benefiting him in the long run.
His highly anticipated fight with chuck liddell took place where chuck won a unanmous points decision against the highly regarded Wanderlei Silva. This was condsidered one of the best fights of 2008.
