Marcus Paul Davis or Marcus Davis is popularly known as “The Irish Hand Grenade” among his fans. Earlier he was known as the “Celtic warrior”. A fight made him switch his nickname and he wondered how it would be perceived in Northern Ireland. The mixed martial artist has one goal only and that is to be a part of the Octagon. The champion Marcus Davis born on August 24, 1973 in (Houlton) Maine is an American mixed martial arts fighter who specializes in Boxing. At present he is a welterweight fighter in the UFC and does independent MMA promotions in the U.S. He was also a contestant on the Ultimate Fighter 2 on Spike T.V.
Marcus Davis started his boxing career at the age of 14, turning pro with a second round TKO of Luis Guzman in April 1993. On the New England circuit he compiled a professional record of 17-1-2 over a span of seven years. After having won so many matches he had a knockout loss by a 34 year old Ed Bryant which made him reconsider his future as a successful boxer. Before losing to Ed Bryant, Marcus Davis was considered the number one ranked super middleweight in New England, and after the knockout loss in October 2000 he retired from Boxing.
Marcus Davis started with martial arts at the early age of 8. In 1995 he started training in grappling with Joe Maffei and in 1997 he opened up an MMA school while running a bar. He entered professional MMA on August 22, 2003 with a first round of TKO of Shaun Gay. In 2005, Marcus Davis was a contestant on the UFC 2. After reviving from a shoulder injury picked up in one of his match he went back to MMA training. He has 11 wins and his most recent win was a KO against Jess Liaudin at UFC 80 in Newcastle, England.
Marcus Davis is twice married and divorced .He has four children, Duncan, Alexis, Emma, and Monica. His family comes from Waterford Ireland.
The current UFC fighter has spent most of his life managing nightclubs and bars. After losing to Gulliard he thought that its time for some soul searching, to decide whether he was going to do everything in his power to become a true mixed martial artist or consider Plan B. It was an Owls job with working at night and sleeping in the morning and in the process ignoring the family. The choice was clear and he wanted to become a fighter.
Marcus Davis believes UFC as his dream come true and fighting on this stage means a lot to him. He wants to end his fighting career in the UFC and thinks that it is a “happily ever after” end for him. In UFC 85, he lost to Mike Swick in a highly entertaining fight.
